What Is an Orthopedic Build-Up?
At Shoe Repair City, we specialize in orthopedic shoe adjustments designed to address leg length discrepancies (LLD). Our build-ups can range from a subtle 1/4 inch lift to as much as 3 inches, and we are dedicated to achieving a balanced orthopedic correction.
For these specialized build-ups, we use an orthopedic material known as "cloud crepe" — a cushioned rubber that is lightweight, flexible, and exceptionally durable. It is available in various colors and thicknesses, making it suitable for a wide range of shoe lifting applications.
The Sandwich Build-Up — our most common technique — involves removing 1/4 inch of the original sole, placing the prescribed cloud crepe build-up on the shoe, then re-cementing the original sole back on top. This lets you retain the original manufacturer's tread and cosmetic appearance while getting the correction you need.
Once our skilled cobblers complete the professional orthopedic build-up, it should be inconspicuous to the eye. The enhanced comfort and support it provides, however, can significantly improve your daily life.

Most common. Original sole tread and cosmetic appearance fully preserved. Cloud crepe embedded between the shoe and original sole bottom.
